RM1, RM2, RM3 and RM7

Havering Council does not offer a pest control service, so most Romford homes and businesses need a private firm. Tell us what you have seen and we confirm the treatment, the visits and the price before anything is booked.

Council or private?

Havering Council does not treat pests.

This is who to contact first, depending on who you are.

  • You own your home

The council does not treat pests or identify them. It points residents to a private pest control company, and suggests checking whether your home insurance covers it.

  • You rent from Havering Council

Use the council's Housing pest form first. Depending on the pest, the council emails you to say whether it can help.

  • You rent privately

Tell your landlord or agent straight away. Who pays depends on the cause, the state of the building and your tenancy, not on the type of pest.

  • You run a business

Food businesses must keep pests out, and inspectors check for it. Pest treatment is arranged privately.

Council services can change, so check Havering's pest control page for the latest position.

Where we work

Romford, postcode by postcode.

  • RM1

    Central Romford, Rise Park

Takes in Market Place, South Street and North Street. Tell us whether the problem is in a home, a shop or a shared area, because that changes who needs to give access.

  • RM2

    Gidea Park, Heath Park

Close to Raphael Park and Lodge Farm Park. Where a property has a garden, we check outside entry points as well as the rooms where you noticed the problem.

  • RM3

Harold Hill, Harold Wood, Noak Hill

Houses, flats and rented homes all need a clear scope. Harold Wood ward is also inside Havering's selective licensing scheme, so landlords there should check their licence.

  • RM7

    Rush Green, Mawneys, west Romford

Some RM7 addresses are in Barking and Dagenham, not Havering. Check your full postcode before relying on either council's rules.

Landlords and HMOs

Rented homes need a clear record.

Havering property licensing

  • Since 18 March 2026, Havering's additional licensing scheme has covered HMOs in every ward. It runs until 17 March 2031.
  • Selective licensing covers privately rented homes in seven wards: Beam Park, Harold Wood, Rainham and Wennington, Rush Green and Crowlands, Squirrels Heath, St Albans and St Edwards.
  • Under the Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949, a council can serve notice requiring an owner or occupier to deal with rats or mice.
  • In a block or shared house, we agree which rooms or units are covered before treatment starts. Say who is asking and who will give access.

Romford businesses

Pest control for shops, food and lettings.

  • Restaurants and takeaways

Food storage, bin areas and a written record of what was done.

  • Market traders

Stock checks and food waste handling. Romford Market trades on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

  • Shops and offices

Stockrooms, delivery areas and staff kitchens.

  • Letting agents

A clear scope, a report and proofing advice for each property.

How it works

From first message to follow-up.

  1. 01

Tell us what you have seen

Call, WhatsApp or use the form with the signs, the rooms and your postcode. A photo helps if you can take one safely.

  2. 02

    Get the price in writing

You see the treatment, the number of visits and what is not included before any work is booked.

  3. 03

    Inspection and treatment

We find where the pest is active and treat the cause. You get a safety report afterwards.

  4. 04

    Follow-up and proofing

Packages add a follow-up visit and advice on sealing entry points. Sealing them is separate work, and we tell you what it involves.

Through the year

What is active and when.

  • Autumn and winter

Falling temperatures push rats and mice towards sheltered buildings. Check the loft, kitchen units and gaps around pipes.

  • Spring to early autumn

Wasp colonies grow from spring and are usually most troublesome in August and September. Old nests are not reused the next year.

  • All year

Bed bugs, fleas and cockroaches can stay active indoors whatever the weather.

Does Havering Council provide pest control?
No. Havering says it does not offer a pest control service and cannot identify pests for you. If you live in a council property, use its Housing pest form, and the council will tell you whether it can help with that pest.
How much does pest control cost in Romford?
Our starting rates are £69 for ants, £89 for fleas, £90 for a wasp nest, £99 for mice, £109 for rats, £119 for cockroaches and £149 for bed bugs in one room. The final price depends on the property, the problem and the number of visits, and we confirm it in writing before booking.
Does my landlord have to pay for pest treatment?
It depends. A landlord must keep the structure and exterior in repair, so entry points caused by a defect may be theirs to fix. Your tenancy and the cause of the problem also matter. Report it early and keep a record.
Why do mice keep coming back after treatment?
Usually because the way in is still open, or food and shelter are still available. Mice can use small gaps around pipes and windows, so we check entry points as well as treating the activity you can see.
Should I remove a wasp nest myself?
We advise against it, because disturbing an active nest can be dangerous. Keep people and pets away from the entry point and send us a photo from a safe distance.
Who deals with mice in the communal areas of a block?
It may be the freeholder, the managing agent or the landlord, depending on who owns and repairs that part of the building. Your lease or tenancy should show this. We can inspect and tell you what we find.
Do you cover all of Romford?
We work across RM1, RM2, RM3 and RM7 from our base in Ilford, and in nearby areas such as Hornchurch, Upminster and Dagenham. Send your full postcode and we confirm it.
When can I contact you, and are you insured?
We reply Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8pm, by phone, WhatsApp or the online form. Bestone Services carries public liability insurance for its work.
